Join us as we look for salamanders as they look for love!
Our first night hike of 2024 will have a slightly different feel than our last of 2023. We won't be gazing up towards the stars, or even out towards the vistas of Conestee. Instead, we'll be searching the ground beneath our feet for one of CNP's signature creatures, the Spotted Salamander! These little guys are actually the second largest salamander species in the state, and in fact, represent SC as the state amphibian. Fittingly, they're prominently featured in the Conestee Nature Preserve logo!
Each year, the Spotted Salamanders gather to breed in the small pools of water across the Preserve. Our educators will use their expertise to search for the salamanders, while providing insight about their fascinating life cycle.
Aaaand, who knows what else we'll find? Deer, beaver, owls? All a possibility as this is a night hike in the Preserve, after all! These hikes are our most popular program, by far, and will sell out, so don't wait too long to buy your tickets!
WHERE
We will meet at the River Entrance (widely considered our main entrance) at 840 Mauldin Rd. Gather under the archway at the trailhead (A on our Map)
WHEN Please plan to arrive by 4:45 p.m. so the program can begin promptly at 5:00 p.m.
HEALTH AND SAFETY Please do not attend if you are feeling ill.
WEATHER If the weather is not cooperative, we will communicate by e-mail should we need to cancel.
CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be made 3 days prior to the event for a full refund.
